Why silva vs bonnar
It felt like an eternity and the ref stepped it. When I saw the fight, I was like, 'Whoa, that was pretty quick. And even though he was on the receiving end of it, Bonnar tipped his cap to the pound-for-pound king. Bonnar said the knee was so accurate that if it landed even an inch higher or lower than it did, he probably would have been able to survive. Instead, Silva hit his spot like a marksman. It's only been a few days since the disappointment, and Bonnar said he's still getting over it, but he has plenty of things to occupy him.
His wife is due to give birth any day now, and he's focusing on a charity named "Garrett's Fight" that provides opportunities for athletes in the special needs community. As far as his own professional career, he's unsure of whether or not he'll fight again. He got the high-profile fight he's always wanted, and now, in losing, he says he's "not in a position where I can really ask for too much right now.
Regardless of the outcome, he'll forever consider it a "great experience. His numbers speak for themselves. No need to dedicate too much space to them, other than to point out a few of his current UFC records. Is that enough? Longest title reign. Exclamation point, actually. Royce Gracie and Fedor Emelianenko were great at their respective peaks.
Georges St-Pierre is great right now. But all three stand several steps behind Silva. The G. And he is doing it on approximately four weeks notice. Why would the G. The answer will probably surprise most of you. Jackson got injured, leaving the UFC without a marquee opponent for Teixeira. Aldo also had to withdraw due to injury, dropping the pound title fight from the card. It suffices to say that UFC was on life support until Silva called and offered his services. Of course, there was no time for the champion to get his weight comfortably down to meet the limits of his weight class. Due to the short amount of time to train, it is easier to make rather than to try to cut down to Unfortunately, "Scarface" pulled out of the event last month due to a foot injury he suffered during training.
Also worth noting is that Silva was willing to fight at light heavyweight for the now infamously cancelled UFC card, but the UFC had already canned the event by the time Silva had contacted White. Silva enters Saturday night with a a perfect record under the UFC banner, while Bonnar comes in on the strength of three victories in a row. Bonnar is a smart guy, and he knows that his legacy will ultimately come down to the fight with Forrest. But what does it say about his career if the first UFC fight of his fight tenure is the only one that people remember? If Stephan Bonnar had come out and tried to put on a slugfest, the result of this fight likely would have been the same; however, he would have gone home with no regrets and his courage under fire against the world's greatest MMA striker would be a testament to his testicular fortitude.
There are a lot of things that went wrong for Bonnar, but let's give this warrior his due.
